? Location: Remote-first (London-based office access, open to talent across the UK)
? Salary: £65,000- £75,000
? Type: Full-time (4-day work week)
I’m working with an exciting client who is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their innovative, mission-driven team. This is a unique opportunity to work on AI-powered software that supports frontline teams delivering essential citizen services.
About the Company
The company is building an AI Operating System for Frontline Casework. Their voice-first, multi-agent platform helps frontline teams reduce admin, cut compliance risks, and spend more time on the human work that changes lives. They are backed by leading investors, have won multiple innovation awards, and are trusted by major service providers delivering government and local authority contracts.
What They’re Working On
The team is developing AI-powered software for frontline teams in areas such as employability, housing, wellbeing, and justice. The platform captures conversations via phone and chat, generates structured meeting notes, and provides real-time multilingual interpretation. Behind the scenes, they tackle complex challenges including AI agents, data pipelines, security, and high-reliability systems operating in sensitive real-world contexts.
Role Overview
The Senior Backend Engineer will design, build, and scale core systems, from APIs and data pipelines to integrations and infrastructure. You will take ownership of the backend as the product scales to a larger user base.
Key Responsibilities
Build and ship services across the AI-native platform
Collaborate closely with CTO, design, and product teams to deliver tools used by real frontline workers
Write clear, maintainable, tested, and secure code that scales
Make technical decisions balancing speed and long-term stability
Help shape architecture as the platform scales from early deployments to nationwide adoption
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of professional engineering experience
Proven track record building backend services/APIs for enterprise-grade applications
Backend: Python/Flask, with async patterns as a plus
Cloud: Hands-on with AWS or similar platforms
Strong judgment for simplicity; know when to refactor vs. ship
Collaborative mindset with experience in cross-functional teams
Experience or curiosity with LLMs or AI systems
Passion for building tech that improves lives
Culture & Values
Obsessed with customer value – placing the needs and experience of customers first
Impact-driven – empowering end users to thrive
Trust through actions – fostering collaboration and reliability
Empowerment – hiring the best people and enabling them to excel
Inclusive by design – valuing diversity of thought and inclusion
Why Join?
Be part of something transformative – reshape frontline public services in the UK and beyond
Huge growth opportunity – potential to expand into broader responsibilities internationally
4-day work week (paid for 5)
Remote-first with London office access and in-person collaboration
A team that invests deeply in your growth and sets you up to succeed
You’ll be joining a small, mission-driven team backed by world-class partners, building something with real social impact. If you care about code quality and the humans it ultimately serves, this is the role for you.
