Language learning company Duolingo were referred to Propel in October 2018. The high speed, organic growth of the company in Pittsburgh, USA had led their management team to decide to expand into the UK.
Experts in ‘land and expand’ projects, Propel were well positioned to assist Duolingo in the search for their first member of staff in the UK. Duolingo needed someone to help embed the company and the brand in the local market. It was clear that this person would be well connected, but Duolingo were uncertain of the talent pools available to them. Throughout the engagement, Propel provided guidance on salary bandwidth, role specification, person specification and source of candidates.
New to executive search, Duolingo relied heavily on Propel’s experienced consultants to find someone who had the skills of a Marketing Director but who could also lead a team, build a brand and promote this to the appropriate networks and channels with a commercial vision. Our team created a talented and extensively researched shortlist, with Duolingo hiring their UK Country Manager in February 2019.
