March 23rd 2020 was a day most people won’t forget anytime soon, sat at home, our eyes glued to the TV as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, addressed the nation and told us “stay at home”, our lockdown was here and little did we know, it wasn’t going away anytime soon.
Retail, Aviation and Hospitality sectors were all hugely affected and sadly so many people found themselves out of a job overnight. I’ve had the pleasure of working for companies in all of these sectors across my time in recruitment. Some of the candidates I’ve placed I still speak to years later, it’s one of the many perks to working in recruitment, you get to meet amazing people every day and help them define their careers and get them their dream jobs.
But what have we learnt from this period? Well, for me I learned that we’re so resilient, our ability to change and adapt during difficult moments in time has helped us all pull through. Companies have learnt to adapt, more have now been moved to a digital-first approach, remote working has been a blessing for most of us.
I’m fortunate enough to work for a company that has a list of clients who have either started during lockdown or have seen a huge growth in their business, already building on their success and their marketing teams and their efforts have been magnificent. We’ve seen a shift in short term marketing strategies, we’ve seen an uplift in channel activity, digital display, ad and social media all increased for both B2B and B2C. I’m hoping long term were see growth again in traditional activity, I’m looking forward to seeing the return of OOH advertising hitting our streets again soon.
Seize the opportunity. We’re now hopefully on the back end of this pandemic/lockdown, we’re getting back to a new “normal”. I speak to a lot of fellow recruiters and I’m hearing the same message across the board “we’re too busy”. Now is the time to step up to the plate, chase that dream job – move out of your comfort zone, learn and explore what else is out there.
Check out our jobs site, like everyone else right now, we're super busy and we're looking for Marketers to join our incredible list of clients – or if you just want to have an informal chat about what's out there for you moving forward, I urge you to do so. I’ll end with one of my new favourite quotes “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein.
